The big Sintax post

Sintax. If you don't know who they were (or are, we could never know!), this was another company that was targeting Gameboy piracy, mainly GBC stuff. But let's take a look at some info I gathered together on the RX Community (link on the right, go and visit please). Let's see:

First of all. There is a game named Super Sonik II. Boxart time, courtesy of Barver (translator of the Genesis pirate Barver Battle Saga!):

Well, let's take a look at the front boxart. Looks like it's from one of the newer games. "ACT"? That's the description of the game there, they always put a three (or sometimes two, or four) letter in the upper left corner, like RPG, or ARPG - so genre is there. Proof that it's from Sintax? Read the upper right corner. ST-040907SC. Wait wait WAIT!!! That could mean that it was published on 7 September, 2004? Or 4 September, 2007? Or 9 April 2007?! I rather say it's from 2004... And the name of the game. SONIK. Wait, we're going to go deeper, this ain't high-shit Engrish compared to later titles. This is going to be a long ass post, so stick around with me.

Let me quote Barver now, he has this game:
"I only played a bit of it today before getting annoyed to death. One major problem, this doesn't play like a Sonic game at all. All characters instead walk like snails. You can jump, and pressing B does a fireball attack. Tails can't even fly, he just shoots a fireball like everyone else. The music is annoying as usual. Throughout most of the game it seems to completely fade out due to attacking enemies. And that's also one of the worst things about this game, because when you hit an enemy it always lets out this very high pitched sound that grates your ears :nono: The same sound seems to randomly play within the music, though I can't tell if that's possibly because I'm near an enemy or if there's another reason. I only got up to the 2nd level, but from what I played the first level was some Volcano that you start on outside then start going underground. 2ND level was something I couldn't distinguish, but I found a door (which in fact happened to be ripped from the castles in Super Mario World on SNES) that lead to another area that I assume wasn't part of the level. Some lame ass toy land. Needless to say that no environments in this game bear any similarity to anything from the Sonic series. One thing I noticed is the back of the box shows rings. In game though those are instead stars. An earlier version on the box?
I just played the game with Knuckles, who turns out to be the strongest character, since he kills any enemy in one shot, so no more of that annoying ear grating sound. Unfortunately this led me to find the game only has 4 short levels! After that it's a fight with some odd thing with an eggman head and then a picture of Tails comes up that says END. The game only has three songs too: title screen, level, and one thing that's just the same sound repeating over and over. Sounds like a guy fapping off :P"

This describes the game very much. Sonic cannot spindash, Tails cannot fly, instead they go spitting fireballs. GENIUS. About the other area. That REALLY reminds me of the Chinese named Super Donkey Kong pirate. (Ninja you lost your memory lol...) Wait I know, Xiang Jiao Chuan. But still. This seems very Mario-ish to me. Even more than I thought. Let me move on and quote the others from Barver's topic, cause this is just the START.

Barver again:
"BTW the back of the box has Sintax's website (www.st168.net). Of course it's dead now, but through archive.org you can get a glimpse of it. Funny message on the site: "Sintax, the bridge to China, what? you want to know, All in the TV game and controlled in your hand" Even they doubt themselves "

See, I told you. VERY Engrish. But moving on. The bridge to posts, what? You want to know, All in the post and read in your eye.

Barver post #3:
"Anybody else checking out Sintax's page through archive.org? Lots of interesting stuff I never knew existed, including Castlevania DX and Lion King 2 for GB. They also show that Crash Bandicoot game that 64scener has for GBA up on YouTube.

Posted Image

They also used to have another website called sintaxtech.com that shows this.
Very confusing since it's supposed to be a GBA game, and even the box says advanced. And yes, Sonik II has Yong Yong's quality :P All the character sprites appear ripped from Sonic Advance, but Tails for some reason looks like they just copied him, resulting in a goofy sprite. BTW is Sintax confirmed to just be the publisher while Yong Yong are usually the developers of games with their markings? Oh yeah, and one of the last working webpages of Sintax says that they had produced up to 34 GB/C games up to that point. So no doubt there's lots out there we haven't seen yet."

Okay, let's see. Castlevania pirate. That is a first. Not even Shenzhen Nanjing Technology and Waixing, the biggest NES pirate companies tried to make a CV pirate. Woah. Lion King. This is basically pirated on EVERY platform. Let me list it to ya: Super Game/Gamtec's Lion King, Dragon Co's HORRIBLE Lion King 3 - Timon & Pumba, the same game reboosted into Lion King 5 - this is one game I have yet to beat! - and I guess a 1995 version of Lion King; the Genesis has Lion King 2 and 3, the SNES got no LK pirates - even though it could have been ported onto it just like Pocket Monster games... - neither the GB. And then BAM, comes in Sintax with Lion King 2.
Then, there's that Crash Bandicoot pirate. You know, I never thought HE will get pirated. And it says it's from 2003. Hm, how long could have been they working. Up to 2006-7?
And Barver's idea of Sintax being Yong Yong's retailers... ugh. YY are literally the bottom barrel of the GB piracy. Not even Sachen could make worse games. Not even VFame - they are rather pirate kings on the handheld... - or Gowin - whose games are STILL not dumped properly goddamnit. 34 GB/C games. Hoho, wait, we're going even further.

Barver post #4: "Castlevania R Castlevania DX (possibly same game as above, not too sure) 2003 Crash II Advance Lion King III Final Fantasy Lord of the Rings (description says that it's a Castlevnia-ish game, possibly just the same thing as one of the above) Harry Boy (and this could be that Harry Potter game you can view on YouTube, the one that steals Metal Slug graphics) Eraq(sp) War 2001 Lots of others from series I don't recognize. I did see one I believe might be Metal Slug, which leads me to thinking they possibly repackage some of their old games with new characters i.e Lord of the Rings comes from one of their Castlevania games, Harry Boy comes from the Metal Slug etc.. I've yet to find any reference to Super Sonik II yet, wonder when this was made."

I answered your question man. I might be wrong, but who knows! Eraq War 2001 - seems very Metal Slug re (or pre???)-release to me. Also, I can see that this means they are re-re-rehacking their old games with newer characters (good luck stealing sprites?) and rerelease them as new games. Pff.

Next quote from codeman38, who even provided some extra images and info. Thank you! :)
"Castlevania DX has actually been dumped, believe it or not - it's available on PlanetEmu under the peculiar title "Castlevania EMO Demo". It mentions Sintax' website in the opening credits, so there's no mistaking it at all.
[Edit: Oh, this is interesting. The ROM header for Castlevania DX, aside from identifying the game as "EMO -by WS", also contains references to Sonic in the header. And elsewhere in the ROM, there are references to the Gamtec patcher which has been referenced in SKOB's ROMs as well. Oh, and viewed in a tile editor, there are Digimon graphics!]"

Okay, let's see. EMO.
NOT THAT EMO DAMNIT!!!
I don't get the name. Why EMO. Also, Sintax is mentioned, but then comes in SKOB and GAMTEC. What the hell! And how come Sonic AND Digimon graphics into the picture? This is very, very confusing. What could this mean? They probably used some of the graphics - or the engine - into C.DX? But how comes Gamtec into game? I don't know. And it's still not over yet...

After these posts, I posted this:
Let me get this straight... so. They ripped off Mario more than Yong Yong, used Digimon graphics, re-released several games with minor changes, have ties to VFame and SKOB...

Codeman replied:
"Still not entirely sure about VFame, as we don't know what precisely Sintax' Crash Bandicoot game is. (I seriously doubt it's the same one, as the one 64scener posted is most definitely a GBA game, but this one only pretends to be.) But SKOB, I'm pretty certain they do have ties to-- and there's some sort of vague connection with Gamtec for both Sintax and SKOB."

But Gamtec was NES and Genesis pirates!!! Seems like GB/C too. And SNES also, see ports of Pocket Monster. And after this reply he wrote a lot more interesting one. Gentlemen, we're heading towards batshit Engrishness. Gonna comment each and every game. Also, uploading pics and copying the storyline, so if the pages don't load you'll see everything.

"Some rather interesting Sintax games found via a site-wide search on the Internet Archive. There's plenty more where these came from, but these are the ones that caught my eyes: 2003 Digimon Fighter Fighted. Perhaps where the graphics in the Castlevania ROM came from?

Jaror, Tai’s sister, is captured and taken to digital world by unknown digital spirits…. Seven years ago, Chocolate Monster disappeared at flower field in summer and now Chocolate Monster, corrupts owing to loneness, are keeping conveying the captured girls back to the digital world where he turn back time to their childhood to find seven years ago’ Walets

What the fuck! Now what kind of game could THIS be? And how can they mistype a goddamn word? I know, D and R are next to each other, but COME ON. This is just plain lame! Chocolate Monster - this definitely reminds me of Lollipops' storyline from Action 52... :P

Digital Drachen. Wait, they made games in German too?! Another possible source for the Digimon graphics. Curious which of the many Digimon pirates on Game Boy this might be.

Digital Drachen. Seven? Digimon 7... hm, there are two, or THREE Yong Yong Digimon pirates. I've seen two GBC pirates, which were ported to the NES by Waixing as Digital Dragon (aka Digital Monsters 4, YUCK) and by SNT as Shu Ma Zhan Dui II (1. My mind has been fucked by that goddamn annoying music which totally reminds me of some classical music, 2. One Digimon at L99 kills everything, 3. That game sucks.). Next...

True Thre Kingdoms! Not that we needed any proof that this was Sintax' work, as 64scener has a physical copy of that one. :) And they made a sequel too (it's also dumped, incidentally, as Shin San Guo Shi 2).

Players are looking forward to GB on the background of three kingdoms.TrueThreeKingdoms centers on Liubei’s visit to Zhu Geliang three times, the brillant military consultant’ s hub and attempting to persuade him to be his army adviser

Ture Thre Kingdoms. Isn't the ported to the NES by SNT? That is another one I CANNOT BEAT CAUSE I STUCK AAAAA!!! And LOL at Engrish. Sequel's intro... no pic this time :\

Space Baby. Wasn't there some pirate ROM that had graphics of Lilo & Stitch? I swear there was-- either Harry Potter or Ice Age, I'll have to check. Because this would be the source of those graphics. And we have another name for the company-- "Saturn Technology". Wish I could see the screenshots better.

Lio. LOL. At least this kinda reminds me of the original animated movie! Wait what? Saturn Technology? Is this ANOTHER company? Or another alias? Boy, boy, boy, this is getting somewhere.

Pocket Monster Carbuncle! Hey, that description sounds awfully familiar... Xiaozhi? Improbity badge? Magic babies? This is WhiteLionness' Pokemon Sap(p)hire game! Even as blurry as the screenshots are, it's pretty obvious. And this one's under the Saturn Tech brand as well. So now we know who made it!

Apparently it's also called
Digimom Sapphii-- wow, these guys can't even misspell consistently. :P

This is absolutely ridiculous. Rocket Brigade is NOT in Digimon, or sorry, DIGIMOM. (Digipop and Digimom. XD) Magic Babies. XD LOL, let's rather move on.

And apparently they made
a sequel to that one as well, with an even more hilariously Chinglish description.

DIGIMON CRYSTAL Ⅱ
SLG
After obtaining the long lost Evil Badge, Yichengsi began to spoil the peace of the Digital Baby’s world at its will and loot the valuable Digital Babies. Having learned Yichengsi’s rascality, Dafu, among others, planned to stop him, but were captured and imprisoned, instead. Batula has lost the track of Dafu and determined to find its lost master and free the Placket Monsters that have been captured by Yichengsi. Batula decides to set off along with its companions, while they are confronted one problem after another on their way. Can they overcome all the difficulties without any harm this time?

Digital Baby and Placket Monsters. What's the point? XDXD

Ice Age II. Yep, those of y'all who needed proof that this game was by Sintax? There you have it. Apparently it was even released in English, though that version isn't dumped. And wow, that description has absolutely nothing to do with the actual game!

Actually, looking even further at that ROM's graphics... oh, wow, it's like a motherlode of Sintax-ness. Aside from the Lilo & Stitch graphics, I've found: * Both the Spider-Man logo and several intro-story screens related to Spider-Man. * Graphics from the intro to Harry Potter (the one that has Lemmings music and Metal Slug backgrounds). * Graphical text reading "Stage 2: Tartoine" (sic), with what appears to be a graphic of the Death Star. (Edit: It's just the planet. There's also graphics for Kamino-- or, as Sintax spelled it, "Kanomi".) * One full-screen illustration that appears to be of Little TaiChi.

Ice Age Ⅱ

When the Sward Tiger attacks the inhabited area of humans, a human mother jumped off the waterfall to save her son and struggled hard to swim toward the bank. She came across Tree Otter and Mammoth. Seeing that the child has lost his only kin, the Tree Otter and Mammoth decided to bring him back to the human. The Sword Tiger also follows them to grab the child. Therefore, they begin a thrilling adventure on the ice land

Yes, this has actually no sense and no relation towards the movie. Several things thrown together as you can see.

Star War Episode II: Battle among Cloned Humans, Spider-Man, Little TaiChi, Lord of the Rings. I'm curious what these games actually are, because the descriptions don't tell me a thing about the actual game play. :)

No idea what this could be. Now after all this, Barver found something:
"I found out recently that Zuke Hero 3 is from Sintax, which does seem to further indicate that they might be V Fame, which in turn might suggest Sintax, Yong Yong and V Fame are all the same company?o_O"

Highly doubt it, V Fame rules, Sintax is average, Yong Yong is ass.
Then, I said: I hope you don't tie Gowin into this whole story, but their games aren't emulated properly or dumped yet.

Now came Taizou into picture:
"Oh I could definitely tie Gowin into this, and Waixing too. kinda. There are V.Fame multicarts with Gowin's earlier (mono) games on them, but Gowin's later (colour) games are pretty different from their earlier ones, to the extent that they seem to be were developed by different people. So my guess would be that the dev team that made Gowin's earlier games decided to go it alone and formed V.Fame, and Gowin hired some other people later on to make GBC stuffs. As for Waixing... well I've seen a Gowin game, complete with original looking Gowin packaging and manual and stuff, in a yellow Waixing GB cart, so uh yeah. That's my tenuous connection that might just have been a factory mixup. o_o But I wonder if Gowin was involved with Waixing's GB games? (it'd probably help if I'd ever played a Waixing GB game, I suppose) Zook Hero 3 though, I dunno. looking at those screenshots from Sky League, doesn't it seem ... lower quality than V.Fame's usual work? Maybe it's just me, but even before Barver said it was by Sintax, I always kinda suspected it wasn't actually V.Fame's doing. I wonder if Sintax just ripped off the name and made their own unofficial sequel? They are pirates, after all, that's what they do. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if V.Fame (or Gamtec or SKOB, or some other part of this whole clusterfuck) actually did work with Sintax (or BBD) at one point or another, but they're almost certainly not the same company. And I don't think Yong Yong was involved either. I mean, Sintax's games are bad, but they're not Yong Yong bad."

So yeah. Waixing might be behind a few things... or they just are publishers. After all, they never went outside the NES, and neither did SNT - OR DO THEY. I mean, there is NJ080, Cave Story. Goddamn it, I found that on GBC. WTH!!!

And now, for Codeman's additional package I got from him. Ice Age findings!

These are Harry Potter findings in the game. You can clearly see it. Especially on picture 02.

And these are Star Wars findings. Wait, we got more.

Say hello to Spiderman in the ROM!

And this is Little Taichi.

  1. Incidentally, the YouTube video you linked is *not* the Pokemon pirate I was referring to-- for some reason, WhiteLionness seems to have removed the video clip of it!

Anyway, it's the same Sapphire pirate mentioned on this page-- you'll definitely see how I came to the conclusion it's the same game (^_^):

  4. Soo... to us normal gamer folks who had real systems growing up and play normal games whats all this mean?

So who does what with the candle stick on the conservatory? Pirate people ripping off other pirates? This is just getting utter backwards and insane!

Though I'm personally curious about some of those games just to see how they play and if they are worth a little bit of enjoyment. It seems, though, most of these would make me want to remove my hair forcefully.
